Lung Function (respiratory / dust)
Respiratory Lung Function Surveillance (also known as Spirometry) is carried out to comply with Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations, 2002 (COSHH).
Using chemicals or other hazardous substances at work can put people’s health at risk. To be compliant with the law, employers are required to control exposure to hazardous substances to prevent ill health. By assessing the lung’s capability to exchange gases, spirometry can detect early signs of lung damage and respiratory diseases.
According to the Office for National Statistics, in the last couple of years ‘respiratory conditions’ has overtaken ‘mental health conditions’ to become the fourth most common reason for sickness absence. Ineffective health surveillance can cause financial issues for businesses – especially where respiratory illness is involved seeing as it can commonly cause sickness absence, unemployment, repeat medical appointments, disabilities, and handicaps.
